Do You Have A Compatible Video Game Partner?
I had two Nintendo-playing brothers growing up. One was as good as me. We could make a 'Nintendo Championship', and it would be anyone's guess who would win. The other, being a few years younger, hadn't yet learned all the moves, all the '?' boxes, etc.Games like Contra, SMB 3, River City Ransom (which is basically Double Dragon with high schoolers). (nostalgic sigh)
When playing with the older brother, we wreaked pure pwnage on those games. We were great teammates, and we didn't argue over the power ups.
We were Mario and Luigi, the Bros.™ nobody messed with. And usually, if we had the time, the games would end with us saving the princess, opening a can on the final boss, etc.
Playing with the younger brother, though, in the interest of a) winning and b) not getting in trouble with the parents, I let him have more of the power ups and et him borrow a dozen of my 30 lives. (If I were playing with him today, in 2009, I expect he'd be closer to my skill level, but I don't know.)
When playing cooperatively with someone else, are you comparable partners, or are you the moocher / moochee?

My compatible video game partner is my boyfriend. We work very well together when being cooperative, and we give each other a run for the money when being competitive.
My sister and I would play together and it went well.
i don't have a compatible partner... i only recently got into playing games since when i was a child they weren't allowed at home. now my mom has loosened up and we have a wii and a playstation. i'm worse than pretty much all my friends, who are mostly nerdy guys and some nerdy gals. but i'm much better than my sister and muuuuuuuuuuch better than my mom. so i don't really have an equal =/
I remember playing with my bros. We got along great. Good times!
Friends, sister, boyfriend the list goes on. . .
My boyfriend and I play together, and I also play with his two brothers. I think we all have our strengths and are equally as good at games overall.
For me, its the boyfriend. I dont play with my bros, because they get all weird and obsessed with the game.
When its me and my boy; we team great. He has a way higher skill level, so he's always healing me and patching me up, but I can also occasionally kick his ass, because i have a weird skill all my own. Also; I donno why: but when we play with others in lan games, there is this unspoken rule amongst the guys, where u protect the girls no matter what. Your both below 10 and there's one health pack? Chick gets it.Its kinda there equivalent of jumping in front of a car for us i guess lol.
My friend and I rule team doubles on Halo 3
My 6 year old niece is my gaming partner... She lets me win sometimes...
My wife and I are currently playing both RE5 and Left4Dead together on our respective 360's and we make a pretty damn good team. I also have a very good friend with whom I frequent virtual worlds and we are quite balanced in skill and work as a kick ass team, so much that everyone of our MMO characters from a large variety of MMOs out at the moment are created in the concept of a two person lvl'ing team.
I'm compatible with my friend Jeff when we play. We rock! But when I play with my boyfriend, he ends up mooching lives...that is, unless we're playing Contra. He's like a machine when it comes to that game!
Yeah...
"You take the cash from these jokers, get the super boots. Then I'll get the cash from the next ones, and I'll get the triple-swing weapon. Then we'll bust in the front gate, go to the top floor, and teach those jokers not to mess with the Bros.™"
"Don't blast the orb yet...I'm waiting for a 'red dog'...is this the one with the 'S' powerup or the 'F'?"
"OK, I'll go down and bake a pizza. You take another shot at beating 'Quick Man'. And, do you want Diet Pepsi or Root Beer? Win-or-lose, next go-through I'm taking Crash Man down."
I'm afraid I'm lacking... but that's what Xbox Live is for.
My brother or my cousin are definitely at my level of gaming. We've played games coop and competitively since Contra and Jackal in the NES days and dominated those. However, no matter how good we got, we could never beat Thundercade and Double Dragon 3. *sigh*.
Now-a-days, my brother is still at my level at games and we make good co-op partners. My cousin doesn't play as much so we's probably slightly lower than my level. During coop, I tend to let the other player get the powerups unless I really need it. This is especially true if the other player is worse than me and needs it more. I can usually hold my own without powerups anyways =P.
Unfortunately I don't have a compatible video game partner. :l But I did always play games with my two brothers [one is older and the other is younger, too] and my cousins. Usually if we were playing in Co-op mode it'd be a two-way street.
Although I remember playing an MMORPG with my boyfriend a couple of years back and he was more advanced than I was [even though I introduced him to the game--he played more than me!] so he felt he had to wait for me to complete some missions sometimes.
My fiancee and I can't play videos games together. I don't know why, but we're just not compatable with those. haha UH OH!
The only time I played a multi-player, it was with my sister. I learned a lot of things from that...mostly that I don't game too well with others, ha. My sister was on a lower skill level because she has only played a few games in her life and I got a little bossy sometimes, but otherwise I guess we managed well enough. Our gaming partnership lasted through a grand total of two games. Success!
my younger brother has always been just one step ahead of me on any game we've ever had. but when we're able to play coop, we make an excellent team. even though that bastard always makes me be sheva when we play RE5. we've been playing video games together our whole lives, so naturally we would mesh well together.
My brother.
Good times, good times...
I still can't play with my brother even though we share a house and have almost every system and multiples of quite a few systems, we play a lot of the same games, BUT he will not admit I am better at anything. Sure he is 8 years older than I am, and he is better at a lot of games, but some games I can destroy him at(tony hawk), he always says his controller isn't working, the game is cheating, etc...Also I can not stand playing co-op with him either he just tells me what to do the entire time, like I am too stupid to know how to play a game, sure it was necessary when I was 5, but not now.
I also do have a problem with a majority of my friends when we try to play games together. I really don't like being told how to play any game. I really have only a couple people I enjoy playing with, other than that I just join random online games.
Compatible video game partner... most definitely my cousin Raymond. We grew up on video games. The NES... and I think Sega... with it's double dragon and toads. Then came House of the Dead... and Counter-Strike... ahhh... back in the days..
Now, we don't play as much... but we still kick a lot of ass together.
@TrojanWade@xanga - DUDE MAN.. I KNOW. Double Dragon 3 is a fucking bitch! It's fucking ridiculous! Did you try Super Double Dragon? LOL
My boyfriend and I rock Left 4 Dead.
I've played games with my younger brother, but he's more in it to be better than me...which is understandable at this point. No nine year old wants his sister to be better than him at video games. :P
I don't have a gaming partner. I wish I wasn't so competitive. It seems nice to have a partner :D
I play WoW. I'd argue I'm the moochee for the most part. I have a few friends who keep up and contribute, but a goodly number ride others' coattails.
