  • Super Pratt Bros.™ 2

Two days ago we brought you the first installment of the adventures of the Super Pratt Brothers. Here's the second:

After the raw pwnage I'd wreaked on my brother in the skateboard game, my brother figured, "Well, if you can't beat him on one game, concede defeat and pull out another game."  Football.

The NES.  Tecmo Super Bowl.  Perhaps the greatest football game ever.

He picked the Giants.  I knew why.  LT is one of the two greatest defensive players in TSB, Super Bowl that year, etc.  I thought about picking the Chiefs and taking Okoye all over the field...but decided to pick the Bills.  (Something about the Bills destroying the Chiefs earlier that day.)

The first half was fierce, and my brother had a lead.  But in the second half, the tide turned, and I had a lead.  Scores were traded in the last couple minutes, and the clock expired, with the score tied.

    Overtime.

I won the toss, but had to punt before reaching midfield.  He drove down the field, but fumbled.  I recovered.  Time running short.  A few plays, and I'd be in field goal range.

Another fumble cut short my dreams of winning.  He recovered.  Time running out.  Called a field goal.  The snap.  My guy trying to block.  The sound for the final gun.  The kick.  Up. Long enough.  Good.

The brothers had fought hard.  I'd done better than the last time I'd played him.  And, in the end, it was a hell of a game.

When I was younger, I'd needle him about a baseball game on the Nintendo that my team had pulled a 9th inning comeback to win.

But...the day, the grit.  For head-to-head matchups with controllers in our hands...that game, even though I fell short, ranks for me as the best.
