  • Did Someone Else Ever Finish A Game Before You Had The Chance To Beat?

For most of our childhood, the Nintendo was a few miles away, at our grandparents' house.

The 90's brought the end of the NES era and the dawning of new consoles.  Which brought in many old NES cartridges into our hands, cheap.

The day our grandfather bought the NES, he'd bought Metal Gear.  Years later, however, we picked up the at-that-time only available sequel: Snake's Revenge.

We lived two blocks away, and summer break had just started, so we figured we'd have it won before too long.  Snake's Revenge is a one-player game, so my brother and I were tag-teaming on it, using eachother's passwords.

    End Game:

I had my shot at glory.  I had the control, had defeated the next-to-last boss - let's just say it was...ugly, and was now face to face with the Metal Gear.  The stakes were high (at least that's what the message said three screens earlier, something about Tokyo, New York, and Moscow), and I was ready to blow the walking tank sky-high.

But, I couldn't reach it.  The grenades did nothing.  The missiles weren't going through.

My first attempt with the final boss, and I'd fallen short.

Real life kicked in, and I had to go mow the lawn.

    ---------------------------

My brother found me...maybe half-an-hour later.

    "I won the game."

    "How'd you do it?"

He told me what I'd missed...gave me a quick description of the end of the game...

I laughed...then I went back to finishing the lawn.  I knew the next time I got there, I'd be punching in that password, going through those last couple floors, and seeing that final sequence myself.

Did someone else ever finish a game before you had the chance to beat it?
