"The Greatest Freak Out Ever"

The other day a friend of mine sent me a link for a video titled "The Greatest Freakout Ever". The YouTube video is basically 2 minutes of a guy freaking out because his mother canceled his World of Warcraft account, all taped secretly by this guy's brother.
Not going to lie, I found this video mildly amusing in a sense, and it makes me laugh that 4chan.com even made a remix to it! I don't know if it's serious or not, but I still found it funny and the sequel, where the brother is freaking out at a computer screen because one of his teammates was party killing, was pretty funny too.But really, everyone. Even though you might have laughed at this poor child (teenager?) freaking out over the fact that he can't play WoW anymore, you shouldn't be laughing. A hardcore World of Warcraft addiction (or any hardcore MMORPG game addiction) is a serious matter. If you anger the wrong person it might lead to:
a) being yelled at
b) something being thrown at you
c) threats
d) any combination of the 3
or e) DEATHIn this world there are so many loser people that are religiously addicted to WoW and other various MMORPGs. If you are a casual player it's fine, but when you hit the point of 20 hour days of gameplay and spending all of your time in your bedroom on your computer eating nothing but pizza pops and screaming at "noobs/nubs" through your screen...that's a serious matter. And take note: DO NOT, I say, DO NOT judge them in front of their faces, or disturb these players. The five courses of action listed above may occur.
An example of a religious WoW player is in that episode of South Park. You know that infamous one where the four of them get super addicted to WoW? They made it their lives and spent endless amounts of hours in front of their computer screens! But really, do you think you could EVER be THAT addicted to a video game that you would freak out that bad if it was taken away? Or could you ever be religiously addicted to a video game? Though an anger issue is most likely a factor in that video, and maybe it's even acting.
But still, is a game privilege being taken away THAT big a deal? Sure, when I was seven years old with my Game Boy I would have freaked out and cried if my parents took my games away. But I'm certain that kid is not seven, he's apparently like 16. It gives you a chance to play in the great outdoors! And HANG OUT WITH FRIENDS? If it were to happen it shouldn't be a bad thing, it should be an "open door of opportunities" to use time more productively!

WTH with the disclaimer? HL is afraid of upsetting WoW players?
This is good, and I saw that video of that boy being referred to. It is funny in one way, and disturbing in another way because if it is serious, that boy has some severe problems.
On a personal note, I do get upset when my Xbox privileges get taken away and I am 17! But I don't freak out...just pout a little.
Hardcore WoW players suck at life (I know a couple and I gladly tell them to their face), but at least they found something they can be good at. Kudos to them!
I have seen that video and, I'm sorry, that can't be real! I've seen exorcisms more calm than the fit that kid threw.
whats the video link!? i wanna take a look at this guy...might know him. xD
Oh i know exactly what you mean. My older brother, who's about to be 18 VERY soon, is like extremely addicted to his PS3 playing on MGO ALL DAY, unless he has to work, which he hates. (MGO= metal gear online)
He'll be in his room all day yelling at the tv screaming "woooooooooooooow" if he gets killed or whatever. -_- my mom takes it from him since he gets in trouble alot and he'll freaking yell at her and not leave her alone until she gives it back. its kinda crazy.
I've seen the video, and was astonished about how much the kid thought his life was ruined. Video games are nice to have as a hobby, but when push comes to shove I would have to choose real life over something virtual.
I think the kid's problem, and most people seriously addicted to video games, is that a virtual world is one of the only things he/she can suceed at. They don't have to be a straight A student, or have a great job, or a lot of friends. All they have to do is sit in front of a tv or computer and space out in a game.
On the other side though, everyone has an escape route when life gets tough. Mine is going out to the barn. A game isn't the best thing to escape to, but everyone handles things differently...
@scrambledmegzntoast - Yes, absolutely terrified. Who in their right mind would want to upset a WoW player, especially after viewing that video?
In all seriousness the disclaimer was added because the gist of the article relates not only to WoW players but also to those playing "other various MMORPGs." Also, the article is making a blanket statement about MMO players and is a form of stereotyping that I believe many people will simply not agree with. There are many of us out there (including myself) who put large amounts of time into games like WoW, FFXI, WAR, etc. who are perfectly normal human beings with friends, jobs, and active social lives. And yes, it was my decision to publish this post because I honestly believe in balance and representing both sides of an argument. Therefore, even though I may disagree with the author, I am more than willing to publish their work to see what all of you have to say.
That, my friend, is why the disclaimer was added.
@andrew - Oh, ok. That is fair enough. As someone who will probably upset everyone here at some point, I can accept that.
@scrambledmegzntoast - No worries :)
I agree that at a point there are more important things than video games but I also don't think it's fair to call these people "loser"s everyone has their reasons for what they do. Plus being addicted to something isn't a choice. I used to play mmorpgs A LOT but now i'm too busy for them, i'm surprised when people I know still do.
I don't get how people can get addicted to a game that doesn't even END. o_o

That video is hilarious I posted it not too long ago on our site too.
That video was scary. He tried to shove a remote up his butt. I guess that should be taken seriously. She coulda took a few hours off, maybe he woulda freaked out less. Heh.
