SEGA Releasing New Handheld
Taken from FGNOnline - HOME.
06/23/09 SEGA SAMMY CONSUMER HARDWARE ROADMAP (WORLD EXCLUSIVE REPORT PART 2)
Last month we posted part 1 of our report where we uncovered SEGA SAMMY's next gen casual system.
Even though SEGA SAMMY warned us not to upload part 2, we have decided to publish an edited version.
SEGA shall be releasing a new handheld in time for holiday season 2010, it shall have dual touchscreens and both screens shall have force feedback, a revolutionary new technology which has never been implemented in the videogame space prior to this. The touchscreens shall vibrate at the same level that a standard speaker does i.e you don't visibly see it's movements. The vibrations can give any illusion that the software programmer desires to program. For example the pressing and depressing of a mechanical button without there actually being anything mechanical present, there are only two screens, there are no keys whatsoever. The user feels the same sensations as they would when interacting with actual physical controls.
The first games shall debut in the arcades on the RINGWIDE arcade board later this year. The specifications of the handheld shall be based around the board. Thus ensuring arcade perfect conversions.
The specifications of the handheld are as follows -
CPU: Intel Celeron 440 2 GHz "Conroe L"
GPU: AMD HD4650 128MB GDDR3 Shader Model 4.0
AUD: 5.1 ch HD
Other: WiFi Connectivity
8GB Compact Flash
Custom Yamaha produced optical media (Capacity: 2.5GB Single Layer)
Stripped down version of Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard 2009
Naming and pricing of the handheld are not yet known.
Zach MorrisI am a big fan of Sega and I love the GameGear, and I know that Sega left the console business quite awhile ago so I really wasn't expecting them to release a new handheld. But, I think it's great and I'm excited. I can't wait to hear more about this new handheld they are releasing.
What do you think? Would you buy a new handheld from Sega?

Wow, this sounds really awesome!
You know, I had never heard of the GameGear until I bought Sonic Mega Collection Plus for the PS2 and noticed some games on it that were originally hand held.
And I thought that Sega would never release another game console.
Heck yes! Haha, I was starting to miss sega systems. :] I remember my dreamcast... Ahh, good memories. :] Crazy taxi, sonic adventures, and all that. Glad that they're making a handheld now! Haha, totally psyched!
Man, I'm still deciding whether I should get a DS (already have the PSP)- I don't need another portable system to drool over right now. Maybe Sega should just stay dead already....
I'm very skeptical. This news should have hit Engadget or Kotaku. However they are reporting a handheld that is basically an emulator that can play Sega games. Interesting
@Lynnjynh9315@xanga - Man, you've had five years to decide on a DS!
@Pcgecko85@xanga - I'm in the same boat. I'll believe it when I see it. Still it's nice to dream... CAST. :V
*segagasm*
I'm skeptical about any company who's been out of the console business so long. We'll see.
This sounds very interesting. I can't wait to see photos!
sweet i used to love my sega systems back in the day, would be nice to see them competing in consoles again. BUT windows embedded? windows whhhyyyyyy!!!!!. *prays it doesn't get a bsod*, i'm always a fanboy for mips based technology over intel though the fact that it runs intel will make it allot easier to get new apps on it. but embedded os ftf much more so that its windows, ( yeah yeah i know its a console and so it has to have a embedded os to attempt to prevent pirating and etc. ) but i can see the possibility of people modding it to make it support more pc related tasks.
at the end of my ramble lets hope they make it affordable, would hate to see the console die off because of a rediculous price. allmost happened to the ps3, and sony can actually afford that sort of mess up o.o
i'm skeptical but i'll support the hardware if they deliver the software.
It sounds a bit like the DS with the interactive dual touchscreen thing, but I'm enough of a Sega fan that I'd love to see how this looks when its finally released!
this device sounds like a rip off of nintendo's ds. in my opinion, i think they should have created something different to put it above the ds than to just compare and battle against it. i didn't hear anything about a camera though and the new dsi has that new function. so if anything, they should include a camera if they want to compete with the dsi. i would like to see the photos though and maybe try it out when it comes in stores if i did choose to consider purchasing it; that is if they do end up creating it. i noticed someone mentioning the gamegear and i actually have the big ol' blue sega gamegear underneath my bed with the few games that i did purchase for it. when reading this, it did kind of make me want to pull my gamegear back out and i think i just might. =)
Psh, I hella would.
Well, this will make my dilemma bigger to decide which handheld console should I get.
i love sega! but it would totally depend on how much it was and how many sonic games i could play on it (big sonic fan). i bought a nintendo DS and hardly ever use it. so i'd probably buy, but again, depends on the price.
WHOA this is crazy is sega really doin this? i always wondered if they'd make a come back lol

One look at these specs and it should be obvious what a hoax this is.
To put them into perspective: The DS has 656kb of VRAM, the PSP has 2 MB of VRAM, the Nintendo Wii has 64 MB of GDDR3 -- Yet they are claiming this portable has 64 times the Video Memory of the PSP and twice the amount of the Wii, what a joke!
And then let's compare processor speed: The PSP is at 333 MHz, Nintendo Wii is at 729 MHz -- this device claims 2 GHz.
If such a device were to actually be released next year it would be netbook size, not DS sized. There's a reason none of the reputable game publications have run with this silly story.
I'd buy it if I had money...but ya know...a little short...I'll just stick with the actual thing.....hehe
i'd buy it
but the fact that
its all touchscreen
and no buttons
kinds worries me
cuz
the buttons are classic
and i prefer them
and sometimees
the touchscreen can go a little waky
and get messed up
i'm not a big fan of 100% touch
lets see how it fairs
I am also very skeptical about this. See how Nintendo bought out Sega awhile back and they merged. I havent seen anything on Kotaku either, but you never know. The game gear was always one of my favorite hand helds.
HA HA HA, SEGA releasing a handheld sounds like a april fools joke.....eh.
Haha sweet.
Sounds like a fancy ds.
