  • The Sands of Time: A Jerry Bruckheimer Production

So I just learned that one of my favorite games of all times, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, is being made into a movie. Now one thing I'm skeptical of is how well the movie will be compared to how much I love the video game. Here's the "premise" from the film's wikipedia page:

Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a street urchin in 6th century Persia. After showing valor in battle, he is adopted by the king as his heir, so the king's two sons will not fight over the throne. He teams up with Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) to rescue the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that controls time, from the hands of the villainous nobleman, Nizam (Sir Ben Kingsley).

Now from the look of it, it's definitely not going to follow the video game which is already losing huge points in my book. The prince is not originally a prince. The prince isn't on his way to take over some Indian maharajah. Farah is no longer named Farah or an exotic and hot Indian beauty (no offense to Gemma, she's just not really Persian princess material).

Although I gotta give it to Ben Kingsley. He looks evil. He can stay.

After looking at the footage for the movie online I found that maybe this could be a pretty decent movie. I'm a little scared to see it but I'm such a huge fan of the series that I just don't think it will make a difference to my experience of the games just because the movie might end up being pretty bad. What do you think? Will this be a huge blockbuster hit? Or will it just fade away like the Persian empire?
