  • Please Form a Line for Aion Online

I don't know too much about how beta tests and MMO previews are supposed to go, but it's probably not like this. Aion Online, the next big MMO to be such a huge deal since World of Warcraft, has been allowing certain users to preview the game. But they forgot to factor in just how many people were going to be there. There are so many people trying to get on that some actually have to wait for hours at a time, in a virtual line, to get onto the servers. The US servers might have been bad, but the European servers that recently opened are even worse. In the US there was an estimated wait time provided by the opening screen...in Europe, it was so overcrowded that they couldn't even do that. There was no room in the LINE ITSELF!

I was wondering just how big this Aion thing was going to be, but I never expected it to be this huge of a deal. I wonder if Aion's going to steal any WOW players? The servers are now being split into a number of different servers, which will hopefully help the overcrowding a little. Is this a sign at how crowded the actual game going to be? I'm not so sure. And I have heard of people camping out in front of stores to wait for the release of new gaming systems and games.

Is Aion the next WOW? Have you ever waited in line (virtual or real) to get at a game you really wanted?
