  • At the Pokemon Video Game Championships

Special thanks to David and Monica from B/HI

Did you know that there are such things as Pokémon World Championships, whole live expositions of Pokémon video game and trading card talent? Well, you do now!

The most recent of these happened back in August in San Diego, CA, and we wouldn't talk about it so late if not for the fact we got some sweet visuals from the event! They come courtesy of Bender/Helper Impact, one of the world’s leading independent marketing communications and public relations firms focused on entertainment content, products, services and technologies.

Without further ado, here's some pics from the two-day event:

Austin Hanna, age 11, from Saville, Ohio, concentrates during an intense trading card game match against Jun Hasebe, age 9, from Japan at the 2009 Pokémon World Championships at the Hilton Bayfront in San Diego on August 14th.

Kakeru Takemura, age 11, of Japan contemplates his next move against his opponent.

Takahiro Akai, age 23, from Ube Yamaguchi, Japan celebrates a powerful move against an opponent at the 2009 Pokémon World Championships.

Jeremy Fan, age 11, from San Jose, California celebrates his final knock out, securing the title of Pokémon Video Game World Championship (Junior Division) at the 2009 Pokémon World Championships.

Kazuyuki Tsuji, age 25, from Japan ascends to greatness as he claims the Pokémon Video Game World Championship Masters Division title over Tasuko Mano, age 15.

Over 1,000 of the world's best video game and Pokémon trading card players were in attendance the weekend of the Championships in hopes of winning "a variety of prizes, trips and custom merchandise including scholarships totaling over $100,000." Not bad for a few rounds of an RPG based on the exploits of fighting animals, eh?

Would you attend the Pokémon World Championships?
