  • Tecmo-Koei Announces Fist of the North Star Game for 360 and PS3

    An early gameplay video.

Tecmo-Koei is making a Fist of the North Star game for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Titled “Hokuto Musou”, it takes a cue from the rest of Koei’s “Warriors/Musou” series and features the series protagonist wading through armies of mohawk-brandishing thugs and psychopathic martial artists amid a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Tecmo-Koei Announces Fist of the North Star Game for 360 and PS3

For those who don’t know, Hokuto no Ken aka Fist of the North Star is an anime and manga series known for its distinct visual flair and grotesque depictions of violence; it even managed to outrage parents in Japan, a country much less conservative about these things than ours. The story followed kung fu master Kenshiro's journey to bring peace and happiness to a world of nuclear fallout and might-makes-right. On the way, he encountered other talented fighters, some who used their strength for good, others for evil. Most end up meeting tragic ends.

I am a bit skeptical about this.  Even though the Dynasty Warriors combat system always has been one of the most logical games to base Fist of the North Star around, part of me thinks it’s become dull and trite at this point. But I’m a big fanboy of FoNS and I still hope this will finally be a title (not including the hilariously fun and broken Aksys fighting game) that does the series justice. Perhaps with enemies that show the tenacity of Ninja Gaiden’s (if with much less of a threat), or difficulty coming from having to fend off a perpetually epic swarm of baddies. From what I can see in the first official gameplay footage, it's hauntingly reminiscent of the tribute game Godhand before it, and I like how the trademark head-explosions are implemented. Enviromental damage is also a big plus, and I hope it's more than just cosmetics. The lack of music isn't a problem, the franchise has always had an incredible soundtrack, so I have complete faith that'll be remedied.

Are any of you familiar with Fist of the North Star? Any thoughts on the new game?
