Unfortunately, the idea didn't take off and he ended up leaving the company. However, he has released the concept images he finished and they look AMAZING. Check out three more after the jump.
Thunder god Raiden.
Tough chick Sonya Blade.
All-around evil dude Kano.

I think these look really awesome, and it's a shame that there aren't more and the game wasn't made! However, with these things floating around, you never know if something might change if the developers see that there's interest.
What do you think of the concept art? Do you prefer these designs or the more classic designs?

The concept art is okay, I think they leave a little something to be desired though.
The problem is they keep making these new MK games visually stunning, but the gameplay and story kind of suffer. I feel the same way about the Final Fantasy series. They're just stale.
Those are great illustrations. I do say that the Mortal Kombat series has lost its appeal over the years with different variations coming out.
I think I've found an attraction for Sonya.
At any rate, They're more interesting that most fighting games out in the last few years. The simple problem of it is this: Fighting games have branched out to the point where if you add anything else, it's either been done, or it's not a fighting game.
I think that might have been why the Devs at Midway chose not to. Granted, it would probably have been a very nice change of pace, allowing for the reimagination of new powers and new backstories (or continuation of the canon of MK) but in either case, I can't see it being anything more than: This is your fighter. This is the enemy. COMBAT.
@RazorBladeParade@xanga - I agree with you about the concept art. Its good, but doesn't hit bullseye for me. Visually it doesn't satisfy my expectations for MK, It needs more (and I don't mean detail to the clothes). Kano looks like he hasn't gotten up out of his couch for a very long time, Poor guy.
dude, nice!!! i wanna see that shit in the MK games!!
Scorpion looks badass.
Mortal Kombat peaked at part II. It just went downhill from there. You know a brand is stale when they start doing crossovers with other games. Stick a fork in it.
With a shift of design like the illustrations above, I would definitely feel more inclined to pick up a new Mortal Kombat game. : /
:0 *is in awe*
Scorpion and Raiden really looked goog, but Sonya and Kano not so much.
Concept design has to be THE most fun/grueling artist job in the entertainment sector... I don't even like the franchise, but I can respect the hell out of his skills. Goddamn so awesome. The game idea sounds rad too.
Concept is ok. But the Mortal Kombat story is pretty much done. Really the only Mortal Kombat game I would like to see is my idea for Mortal Kombat vs. Killer Instinct.
Sweeeeeeet. It's a damn shame something like that didn't take off.
Scorpion I think is the best of the pictures displayed. Raiden looks corny in appearance, and the other two just don't look functional (I know its a fantasy game, but seriously). However, I agree that Mortal Kombat should continue in a re-imagined/re-booted format. Keep the fighting game, but get rid of the old mechanics (3 fighting systems per character etc).
Before Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe came out, I heard that the producers of the game wanted to make an MK for the next generation (or whatever). They wanted to start over with mainly new characters and only some old ones, from what I understood. I don't know what happened to that idea, but they should have kept it. The last game was just a sell-out. I don't like fan-appeasing games. A game should MAKE fans.
I loved the concept...scorpion is amazing...
