  • When Did You Get Hooked on Games?

Whether you game seriously or are a casual player just happening by HardestLevel, there has to be an early moment or so in your life when you really started enjoying video games.

I came with my mom to her friend's apartment when I was about 3, and the woman just so happened to have a Nintendo Entertainment System with Super Mario/Duck Hunt and the Zapper. I'd never played a video game before in my life, so when she plugged it in and let me play as the two of them talked, I was immediately hooked! What more, she agreed to give the system away since she rarely even used it.

Soon after that I ended up with a Super Nintendo and then a bunch of games and accessories in the coming months. I sucked at these games, given, but I didn't care since I always had fun. My dad and my neighbors were always willing to help out...or play where I decided I had enough and didn't want to bother myself with a challenge anymore.

But I guess the moment that really sealed my fate as a gamer is when my father rented me Street Fighter II for the SNES. I don't think any game really captivated me as much. 18 years later, and I still have a loving relationship with fighting games.

When did you start enjoying video games?

once I realized that there were a lot more steps into my parents making a baby brother for me to play with, which was around 5 or some shit

Birth. I was born with a controller in my hand :p.

Seriously, though, I have no idea. I can't remember a time when I didn't play.

The 90's were a good decade for me. I vaguely recall my parents owning a SNES system mainly due to their obsession of games. The SNES did a GREAT job in introducing me to the world of games and the n64 just... blew me away.

One thing I do remember is Tetris Attack for the SNES. My mom just owned in this game everytime we played against each other. I couldn't even beat her until I was 17!!!

Chrono Trigger, another epic game just made me spaz out on the genre of RPGs. The story was well written and the graphics were a mighty plus. Earthbound made me crack up like a madman, but the highlight I suppose is Secret of Mana. I had a brother and we used to level up and just own monsters. Two-Player RPG co-op was a rareity so when you had another person playing with you (or even a neighbor for a third) it was magic. Combine that with the imagination of 10 year olds and you have a winner.

My love for gaming started when I was 6, and I'd spend a couple of hours plunking quarters into the Galaga and Pac Man machines at the laundy mat while my mom washed clothes.

That Christmas, I got my first home console, the Atari 2600. Since then, I've owned practically every home console that's been on the market. I'm now 37, and although my taste in games have changed, my love of gaming is still strong.

I've played those classic black-and-white lcd screened hand-held games since birth.

But "addiction" really only kicked in when Counterstrike got popular amongst my schoolmates back in 1999 ish. CS beta 5 was the first game I spent hours (and $$) in the LAN cafes with friends.

I think I was about 6? I saw my cousins playing Spyro and instantly wanted it =P but I think I was about 7 when I started actually playing them. Addiction didn't kick in until about 9.

I fail. When i was 8 =P I played the Genesis when i was 4, but after that I didn't play much til 3rd grade, when I got Sega Smash Pack II. Pretty epic stuff right there.
