Isn't she cute? Sorry guys, she's taken... Sal9000 traveled to Guam armed with his Nintendo DS and copy of Love Plus, and invited the Japanese media to come along. The happy couple was married by a priest, and they were accompanied by friends and family and held a formal reception. The entire wedding was broadcast on Nico Nico Douga, a Japanese version of YouTube. Click through the link to see the footage.
While it isn't a legal marriage, the two are now married in the eyes of the church, or at least that church. I'm really not sure how to feel about this myself. Was he doing this for show, or is he seriously in love with a game character? And his friends and family went along with this?
Have dating sims gone way too far, or are some otaku too desperate? Can you see this becoming a trend? What would you do if your friend came to you and wanted to marry a character?

This is actually kind of a problem in some places. Basically, people get so wrapped up in electronics that they no longer care to develop real, human relationships. I don't think it's a high percentage, but given that Japan has a drastically shrinking population, stuff like this does set off alarm bells.
