  • Your Holiday Gaming Wish List

So, you've gorged yourself on turkey, stuffing and sweet potatoes, and after a terrifyingly long, meal-induced nap, you found yourself in the midst of Black Friday, possibly one of capitalism's most evil inventions. Even so, as gamers, we must recognize what this means for us. It's the time when we must decide what games or game-related items we'd like to find waiting for us on Christmas, Hanukkah, Festivus, etc, etc.

With so much to choose from and so many titles to look forward to, it's actually pretty hard to nail it down to just a few, but just to get you started, here are my current picks (in no particular order):

New Super Mario Brothers Wii: I suppose this one plays to the retro gamer in me, and the lure of a fresh, well-designed Mario game is hard to pass up. I was born just after the original Nintendo came out, and I've got quite a few fond memories of the original Mario and its numerous sequels. Then he went 3D and somehow lost a little bit of his charm.

I think going back to a true platformer was the right move for the Mario franchise. Not to say that there haven't been other excellent games in between, but the elegant simplicity of a Mario platformer just can't be beat.

Left 4 Dead 2: It's practically sacrilege that I haven't bought a copy of the sequel to what is undeniably one of the best undead shooters ever. But hey, that's what you get for being a poor graduate student. I have to make choices every day: game or eat?

Unfortunately, my base animal instincts usually take charge and I end up going for a sandwich instead of a digital pistol. This is one title I simply don't have the option of ignoring for much longer. I crave the thrill of zombie-killing, and the thought that Steam may offer an awesome deal on the game before Christmas.

XBox 360 Elite: Okay, I'll admit it. I do not own my own XBox 360. Anytime I need an XBox fix, I use my brother's. And for whatever reason, he doesn't like Halo or Grand Theft Auto. Utter blasphemy. His crappy taste aside, I think it's time I take the plunge and get myself the real deal.

Firstly, black is totally my color. Secondly, it's bundled with a good-sized hard drive and plenty of other little goodies, and the $299 price-tag is actually pretty reasonable (same goes for the PS3, but that one will have to wait). Otherwise, I suppose I'll just have to get by on my rapidly aging PC and my adorable little Wii.

And these three are only the beginning.

What's your gaming wish list looking like this year?
