  • Pokemon Remakes: "Yes, Please" or "No Thank You"?

Everyone loves going back to their old games, but do we really need to remake everything? Nintendo apparently thinks they do, as the remakes of Pokemon Gold and Silver (HeartGold and SoulSilver) for the US have now been priced and dated.

If we put all of these together, we can afford Pokemon Shin Super Soul Silver Remix Rewind!
And then the Heart Gold and Flashing Yellow and...

I enjoy the Pokemon games and I've played the ones for Gamebody and Gameboy Advance, and while I like Pokemon Yellow, I'm not going to go out and buy a new version of it. Heck, the different colors that come out at the same time are almost exactly the same, and while some people will buy both, you won't see me doing that. But with remakes, the new graphics, new Pokemon, new battle types and whatnot are just not enough to make me go out and buy a new game that's 90% what I have already. At least these newest remakes have something a little different.

Run faster on the treadmill and you'll get more watts for me!

HeartGold and SoulSilver come (at least in Japan, not confirmed in the US yet) with the Pokewalker. It's a Pokeball-like thing that goes on your belt, and your steps will help train your Pokemon. It's kind of like the Pocket Pikachu, except that your steps can actually help you in game. You choose which Pokemon to bring around with you all day, and (s)he will gain experience as you burn calories in your travels. Additionally, software in the Pokewalker has minigames and such so you can find more Pokemon and items, which you can send back to your game in the DS.

If I actually had a DS, I probably would buy one of the games, but mostly because I haven't owned Gold or Silver, and also because as lame as I would feel keeping the Pokewalker with me, it might be cute. If this were a remake of Red or Yellow however, I really wouldn't be interested as I already own those.

Do you buy remakes games you already have if they come with perks? What would it take for you to buy a remake of a game you already have?

Actually, the Pokéwalker has been confirmed for US. The boxart says "Pokéwalker Accessory Included", thus confirming it.

    Check the boxart here:

aww I like pokemon games... but I wouldn't buy soul silver or heart gold even though I kinda want to. The Pokewalker seems like a pretty awesome idea!

  • FracturedOne@xanga

I imported SoulSilver from Japan. Therefore, I've already been playing this since September.

The PokeWalk is a pretty cool concept.

I still have my pocket pikachu haha. It kept dying though (:

  • SlackerSociety@xanga

I'm going to say first off that I see what you did there with the title:
    {Yes, please}.

No more, pokemon like all the other anime and its ilk only to exist for being a cash cow, needs to die.

Initially, I was thinking... "oh god...another remake -__-" then Poke-Walker hit me. O_O Whoa man, now I can go on a true Pokemon Adventure!

Poke-walker plus remake of my favorite version, silver equals win win! I like how they incorporated the poke-walker to get people to "exercise" or at least more around more!

I dunno man, this is a tough one... Gold and Silver were my favorite versions, and seeing them updated and upgraded to the DS sounds pretty awesome.

If the remakes ended here though, I'm totally fine with that. They shouldn't really go past gold and silver remakes IMO.

And besides, WHEN THE HELL IS NINTENDO GOING TO MAKE A POKEMON ADVENTURE FOR THE CONSOLE? (No, of course Pokemon Stadium/Battle Revolution and other spinoffs do NOT count).

When Nintendo does that for once... man, that'll be the day

The little Pikachu Pedometer is pretty clever since kids are so giant and fat these days, but they're also lazy and will likely figure the device out. I know how to cheat on a regular pedometer. Shake it around. Well, the kid will have nice arms, I guess. :)

i for one definently enjoy the pokemon remakes because theres always different exclusive pokemon within each other that you need to get to actually catch em all. as for other games, they need to have new added content and upgraded gameplay somehow for me to purchase a remake....

  • hgothbabe@xanga

    Poke-walker, ftw!!!!:D

  • MiZzCHERRILICIOUSchink@xanga

damn I miss Pokemon games! D:

  • Saelee2009@xanga

I played the red version, but i would never buy any of the other sinces it's stupidly the same... just get a friend with the other version and trade pokemons... those were the days back in middle school. But the pokewalk is kool, would be kinda embarass walking wit it.. but hey it's kool!

  • wompy@xanga

Brings back memories with my GameBoy color and gold and red version. Didn't finish the gold verson since the internal battery dies and I lost my save file. I would like to see the new remakes, but I don't have the new GameBoys.

Pokewalker = OK way to get the gamers more active or creative (tape/attach it to active pet or something like that).

  • iTekno@xanga

somethings should be keeped retro... =[ too much "new" for me

  • xchinkylaydee@xanga

    I don't mind. :) I like both versions.

  • FracturedOne@xanga

By the way, the PokeWalk can't be cheated. Shaking it won't get you many watts, it's motion sensor will react to a gentle rocking motion. Your best bet is to just clip it to your belt and go about your day.

  • Breeish@xanga

I've owned Blue, yellow, and Diamond They really need to come up with a new storyline.... And maybe some updated graphics besides color....

  • haloed@xanga

Yes, I would love them to remake all the pokemon series for DS.  I would buy them.  I want to replay my pokemon red but it's only able to be played on a gameboy advance at best, which has shitty screen quality and no backlight.

  • XxNoirMaidenxX@xanga

To be honest, I'm looking forward to the Gold/Silver remakes, if only for the fact that I can play my favorite old-school Pokemon games on my DS, seeing as Gameboy cartridges won't play on it.  Gold was one of my favorite games, so it's nice to be able to carry it with me once more (seeing as I am far too lazy to hunt through my electronics cabinet for my Gameboy color).  And unlike most old-school Pokemon fans, I like the new games.  I don't watch the new shows or collect any of the cards (I'm not 10 years old anymore...), but I do enjoy sitting through new Pokemon adventures.

And they've already remade Red and Blue.  It was for the Gameboy Advance, but they've already remade them recently.

  • PixelDOT@xanga

Oh my gosh, I remember the pocket pikachu!! I had one when it first came out, oh man, and I constantly resorted to just shaking the stupid thing instead of actually walking to get it to do stuff xD

  • CMWINK@xanga

    I WANT THE POKEWALKER! =D

  • GrainsAndOats@xanga

I bought FireRed... I absolutely love it =\ It was so much fun to use old Pokemon with new-fangled add-ons. I'm probably going to get HeartGold. I loved the Gold/Silver and Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald series the most soo...

  • Jeremy_Sheer@xanga

I have every game since the begining you better believe it

  • Choose Identity

  • Give eProps (?)
